This blog article is called ‘The United States and Cultural Imperialism’, by a person named Akoubadorcas. It was made on November 5th, 2012. It is a primary source as it is written by one person, and is a blog, which acts as a personal diary for thoughts. The intent of this article was to give insight on Imperialism due to America, and the effects is has around the world. It introduces what imperialism is in this day and age, the pros and the cons, and the main imperialist: America. The article is addressed to high school students and older, because of the wide vocabulary used relative to imperialism. The value of this article is that it gave me better insight into how America is a huge instigator of imperialism in the world today, especially through different forms of media. It reflects the views of one person living during modern imperialism. The limitations of this source is that it is a blog article. All information is subject to bias as it is more of an opinion supported by facts than just a document full of facts. There are no sources to be found in the way of pictures or any statistics to support information given, thus some information given could be false.
The blog article is called “Cultural Imperialism”, by a blogger named Baeysay. It was made on October 24th, 2010. It is also a primary source. The intent of this article was to give information on Nike’s Imperialism in China. It addressed cultural imperialism, and how Nike uses it to its benefit. The article was one of the main sources I used in my case study of Nike in China, as it gave information exactly linked to what I was trying to write as well as a few sources that I could use in the future. It enabled me to see the bad side of cultural imperialism, especially on Nike’s part. The limitations of this source was that it is a blog written by a chinese author, thus it is subject to bias on the information given on Nike. They do not address the positive aspects of Nike’s cultural imperialism on China, and solely focus on the negative side.
This article is called “Nike’s Track Record’, and is by someone named Eric Lorman. The date of creation/publication is unknown. The purpose of this website is to address Nike and its imperialism. It introduces Nike’s “strategy”, or way of manipulating others in order to gain profit. This value of this article is that it is from an educational website, thus must be reliable to use, and not as subject to bias as a blog. It also gives several sources and more statistics towards the end of the article, enabling me to use these to support my argument that imperialism exists. The limitation of this website is that the date of publication is unknown, and thus we cannot be sure how recent the article is in the terms of statistics and facts.
This article is called “Nike: Modern Day Slavery”, and is by someone named globalpeaceandconflict (online username). It was written the 23rd of February, 2012. The purpose of this article was to raise awareness on Nike’s use of slavery and child labour in the making of its merchandise. This article is written for educational purposes, although it is written in a blog format, as it addresses the audiences as one would in an essay to a teacher. They use a variety of sources to support their argument. The author represents the very negative view of Nike, and supports their point from a variety of different sources including other articles, books and websites. However, since the author’s view of Nike appears to be very negative, they could be misquoting facts in the way of supporting their argument. The author leaves out how this slavery can sometimes benefit the village or even the country it is taking these workers from - it still pays, albeit at very low prices, and provides a place of steady income for those in a country with none.
This page is called “The Pros and Cons of Globalisation”, by an author named Mike Collins. It was written the 28th of June, 2010.The intent of this article was to introduce the advantages and disadvantages of globalisation. It was written for a high-school and older audience, as it includes vocabulary relative to globalisation and imperialism. The value of this article is that it gives not only the bad side of globalisation as most sites/pages do, as globalisation is another form of imperialism. It enables the reader to see both sides of the argument. The limitations for this page is that the authors has provided very few sources for the wide range statistics they provided to support their variety of information. There is no way of telling how biased this article is.
